Tourist Attractions in Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela has various sites that are worth visiting when touring the region. It is one of Spain’s monumental cities with the rich history safely tucked into the remains of the different historic periods that are the monuments around the city. There are several squares here all of which have a lot to offer to visitors and people who choose to spend some time in exploring the land. Obradoiro Plaza: the name of the plaza generally means work of gold and it is quite shiny for that matter. It is the center of Santiago which in itself is a museum. There is an interesting cathedral and a chapel which is well preserved to date and also has beautiful towers adding to the shining beauty. Every part of the construction is quite something to behold hence the popularity the cathedral has gained over the years.

Still in the square, a brilliant palace showcasing the civil Romanesque architecture stands with the most outstanding features being the sculpture works and the groined arches. The palace Gelmirez faces the cathedral. The Hospital Real is another interesting building worth checking out in the square. It was built with the intention of sheltering pilgrims and is still in use today as a parador turismo. Opposite the cathedral is also another palace Rajoy which is a neoclassical piece of art. There are also monasteries worth checking out while in the square. Other Squares in Santiago de Compostela: other interesting squares found in Santiago include the Plasterias plaza sheltering many shops and quite a piece of art. It also has a fountain that is worth seeing. The Quitana Plaza and Azabacheria Plaza are the other Santiago squares that serve as attractions for visitors. They have cathedrals, convents, monasteries and baroques all of which hold great value and architectural importance.

Around the university in Santiago de Compostela lie other interesting features worth seeing while here. They include palaces such as Marqueses, Monroy, holiday villas spain and Casa Dean. They are some of the most beautiful palaces in the regions and showcase great architectural works. There is also a church dating back to the 12th century and whose baroque tower has remained as an attraction for many visitors coming here. Santiago de Compostela has a lot for those willing to explore it. It is however more of a monumental city hence it is important to be aware of this before embarking on your holiday or tour here.
