Touristic Salamanca Spain

Situated in Castilla Y Leon region, Salamanca is famous for the many monuments and University. The monuments are mainly cathedrals, churches and ancient palaces. It is actually a World Heritage destination and it is therefore not a wonder that it receives thousands of tourists through the year.

Cathedrals Vieja and Nueva are the most outstanding here and their construction began back in 1514. They are both works of art with a mixture of style. For instance, the Nueva Cathedral has a mix of Baroque and Gothic and the most interesting parts in the cathedral are the dome which is well adorned and the carvings found here telling Jesus’ life. The old cathedral on the other hand is a complete contrast because of its simplicity and dates back to the 12th century.

Plaza Mayor, the city’s heart is said to be Spain’s most beautiful square. There are plenty of pavement cafes on its edge and there is an amazing town hall on its side. One of the most popular attractions here is the House of Shells which is a monument covered with shells and carved from stone. It was built in honor of pilgrims of Santiago Compostela. The 17th century La Clerecia church is famous and is worth visiting as well.

The world famous Salamanca University has attracted famous people from across the world and even though its performance is no longer the same, it still does attract students from the different parts of the world. Next to it is a beautiful ancient church San Esteban which is most famous for the carved façade whose view is best during the evenings. Other areas that are worth visiting while on the region include the art deco museum which has numerous items including jewelry, old furniture and oil paintings. Some of the interesting pieces are those by Lalique a famous glassmaker.

Tourists coming to Salamanca can find all the information that they need from the Plaza Mayor which has a tourist office. It remains open everyday for the most part of the day. Even though Salamanca does not have an airport, the train and bus services are amazing. Early planning has remained to be an essential part of ensuring that a holiday is enjoyed and the same should be the case for those visiting luxury villas spain . There are lots of places to visit and plenty of new things to learn especially as far as the history of the region is concerned.
